Raising the Bar:
ServiceCraft Helps Fill a Container for Namibia’s Needy Athletes
Namibia may be known to some as a tourist destination, a desert paradise in southwest Africa. But for the average Namibian, poverty is what colors each and every day. Namibian athletes are no exception. They lack equipment and gear, sprinters frequently run without shoes.
ServiceCraft is helping fill the void for Namibia’s track and field athletes. We have joined hands with several U.S. university track teams, an American activist living in Namibia, and a track and field equipment provider, On Track and Field, to bring much needed equipment to those deserving athletes.
Several Big West Conference university track teams along with Brigham Young University have donated track equipment ranging from shoes to throwing implements. One of the most awaited items is a pole vault landing mat soon to be the only pole vault pit in all of Namibia.
Donations are destined for the Frankie Fredericks Foundation, a charitable organization founded by world class sprinter Frankie Fredericks, which provides scholarships to help student athletes stay in school. The Foundation will distribute the gear to needy athletic programs throughout Namibia.
The shipment will depart for Africa in June 2007.
