A 6'5" farm boy from California's Central Valley, Cy Young competed with the likes of Bill Miller and Bud Held in 1952 for a berth on the U.S. Olympic Team headed for Helsinki. Young, a UCLA alumnus, ultimately collected the gold medal in Finland, with a throw of 242'.

"I guess you could say that Jesse Mortensen was my career role model. Not only was he a gifted decathlete and NCAA javelin champion, he served as track and field team captain for the University of Southern California in 1930. He then turned around and gave back to the sport by successfully coaching so many of us at his alma mater, " says On Track owner Ron Morris. Coaching the USC team, Mortensen won seven NCAA Championships in 11 years.
